Why Some Children Struggle with Reading

Many children who struggle with reading are bright and capable learners. Often, the difficulty is not a lack of effort, but that certain foundational reading skills have not yet been fully developed.

Reading is a complex process that requires children to recognize sounds in words, connect those sounds to letters, and blend them to read unfamiliar words. When any part of this process is difficult, reading can feel slow, frustrating, and overwhelming.

With targeted, structured instruction, these skills can be taught. By identifying the specific areas where a student is struggling, intervention can focus on building the foundational skills necessary for confident, successful reading.

Signs Your Child May Need Reading Support

  • Your child avoids reading

  • Reading is slow and frustrating

  • Your child guesses at words instead of sounding them out

  • Your child struggles to remember letter sounds

  • Spelling is very difficult

  • Crying over homework

  • Physical  symptoms before school or refusal to go to school

If any of these signs sound familiar, your child may be missing key foundational reading skills. The good news is that with the right instruction, these skills can be taught. You don't have to navigate this alone. I'd love to talk with you about how we can support your child and make reading feel easier.
